Run the Race

“Even to your old age I am he,
and to gray hairs I will carry you.
I have made, and I will bear;
I will carry and will save.”

– Isaiah 46:4

God will be faithful to you for all of your days on Earth. All of them. Just as God formed you and knew you in the womb, God will be with you until the end of your earthly life. Draw even nearer to God as you grow older. Allow yourself to be surprised at His tender love and care. God will sustain your faith through your senior years. Though your body may slow down, God never slows down. He has made you, He knows you perfectly, and He will carry you through to the end.

So, run your race well for Jesus. Devote your earthly years to following Jesus. That includes your “golden years”. Understand that you never retire from serving the Lord, you simply change the manner of your ministry. Draw near to God in prayer, worship, and the study of God’s Word. Accelerate your prayer life as your physical life begins to slow down. Understand how God wants to you use you in each stage of your life and yield your life to Him. Yield your early years to Jesus. Yield your middle years to Jesus. Yield your senior years to Jesus. Be faithful, trusting that if God calls you to something, He will make it happen.

God will sustain you spiritually and save you to the uttermost. He truly will. Trust that He has good plans for your final years and walk with Him in confidence. #FollowJesus

The Offer of Refreshment

“Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.”

– Isaiah 40:28-29

Isaiah invites us to contemplate God Almighty. God is everlasting and eternal. He has no beginning and no end. Before time existed, God has always been. He stands astride time in a manner we simply can’t understand. He is the Creator of every bit of the Earth. He has created all nations and peoples. He created oceans and islands, mountains and plains, jungles and deserts, along with everything else.

God’s energy and strength are without limit. He will never grow tired of caring for every portion of this vast universe. He will never become weary of your requests and concerns. He never runs out of love for us through Jesus Christ. The knowledge and wisdom of God is “unsearchable”. This means it is infinite and can never be fully measured, indexed, or explored by us. There is no end to the perfection of God’s knowledge and wisdom. We could never process all that God knows and He knows everything that could possibly be known.

For those who trust in God, He offers refreshment. If you come to Him through faith in Jesus and seek His renewing power, He will give it to you. He will renew your energy when you’re on the verge of collapse. He’ll give you strength when you have none. All this comes through His Holy Spirit Who lives in you if Jesus is your Lord. If you let Him, He will fill you from His infinite reserve. You will be filled and God will be in no way diminished. This is the God you are invited to contemplate and worship today and every day. #FollowJesus

From Comforted to Comforter

“Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” – 2 Corinthians 1:4

When you go through difficult times, seek comfort in the arms of your loving Father in Heaven. Know that God loves you and longs to embrace you as His child. Believe the truth that God is the God of all comfort and He will comfort you if you draw near to Him. Pursue Him. Spend time with Him in tearful prayer. Meditate on the promises of Scripture. Share your pain with your perfect Father Who loves you, knowing that He hears you. Seek His presence and know that He is always near to any of His people who are suffering and broken-hearted.

Once you reach the other side of your affliction, be a comforter to others. Once you know that God’s presence and promises are real, share that with others who are suffering. Recognize that God’s comfort to you prepares you to comfort others. Be their comfort. Draw near to those who are suffering rather than withdrawing from them. Be present for them and offer them the comfort of your presence and the healing balm of God’s Word. Give to others the supernatural comfort you have received yourself.

In this way, God’s people strengthen and guide each other to draw nearer to our Father. In this way, God’s people comfort each other to keep going. In this way, God’s people empower each other to overcome terrible things in the name of Jesus and to the glory of God. Be comforted. Be comforting. Don’t hold back. Rush toward those who are suffering and love them. Be the comfort they need in desperate times and the holy ambassador of God to them. #FollowJesus

A Future Free of Weariness

“And the ransomed of the Lord shall return
and come to Zion with singing;
everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;
they shall obtain gladness and joy,
and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”

– Isaiah 35:10

If Jesus is your Lord, then this verse is about you! You have been ransomed from death and set free from sin. Your new life and freedom have been purchased with the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God Whose sacrifice takes away the sin of the world. You are invited to turn and re-turn to the Lord Jesus. Find your comfort, joy, satisfaction, and relief in Him. Come to Him with singing, over and over again!

Everlasting joy shall be upon YOUR head. There may be struggles and setbacks here on earth, but your joy in the presence of the Lord extends forever and ever and ever before you. In Christ, your eternal future is completely free of sorrow and grief. Your future is free of weariness and exhaustion. Your future is free of pain and death.

Come to the Lord with singing. Come to the eternal Mt. Zion that awaits you in heaven. Don’t dwell on your present situation, rejoice in your glorious future! Sing when the world would silence you. Rejoice when the world would have you weep. Be refreshed when the world would make you weary. Let the joy of the Lord fill your soul. #FollowJesus

The God of Order

“But all things should be done decently and in order.” – 1 Corinthians 14:40

God is a God of order. He isn’t into chaos. He doesn’t like chaos in general and He especially doesn’t like chaos when it comes to worship. He blesses us with freedom and gifts to worship Him in many, many different ways. We can worship in reading Scripture, reciting creeds and liturgies, praying, singing, preaching, giving, exhorting. We can worship very formally and very informally. Nonetheless, all worship must all be done in a manner that is orderly and reflects His character. God doesn’t want chaotic worship – not in public and not in private.

Take time reflect on your worship habits. Do you worship privately in your home or car? Do you worship through Bible reading, meditation, prayer, or singing? If you do, is there an order to your time with God or is it kind of a chaotic flow of whatever comes to mind? If the latter, seek God’s understanding on how to bring a bit more order to your private time with the Lord so He will be more honored.

What’s your public worship like when you gather with other believers? Once again, there’s tremendous freedom to worship in various ways, but it should never look or feel chaotic. There should be a grace and order to all worship because that’s God’s nature. As you participate in public worship, make sure you’re embracing that order and not turning it into your own private disorder. Fully participate in all the elements (including those you don’t naturally prefer) – all the prayers, all the songs, all the preaching. Keep your mind, heart, and body fully awake, aware, and engaged so that God will be most glorified by your worship. He is worthy of all worship and that worship should truly glorify Him and reflect His nature. #FollowJesus
